In some languages, breath and life are the same. No breath. No life. For some reason, holding your breath seems to hinder thinking, A slow in breath seems to improve thinking and decision making. There does seem to be a connection between making a rash decision and holding your breath. The solution is to take a deep breath before making a decision. Here are some situations where breathing is required – Just before answering a question especially one that is difficult to answer, before making a decision, when responding to ‘what are your fees?’ just before entering a stressful situation like speaking to non supportive audience. Try it. When asked any questions during the next week, pause and breathe in before replying. You answer will be more considered and less likely to cause regret. You whole brain will be activated. I am sure we have all made decisions without enough thought and felt regret shortly afterwards. Some people will try anything to get you to get you to stop breathing. Don’t let anyone take your breath away.
I know breathing seems automatic and necessary but if you want help to be more mindful in all aspects of your work life, take a deep breath and contact me.
