The fear of not speaking

Mostly people don’t speak in public because of fear. They focus on the negative consequences of public speaking. Strangely, there is seldom any thought of the consequences of not speaking in public. Time is spent thinking about the reasons for not speaking. If people knew the opportunities they are missing by not speaking out to groups of any size, they would use their energy to develop skills and confidence in speaking. They would make the effort to change their attitude. Speaking to groups builds your confidence and your reputation. It also makes a difference to the lives of others. Think about the consequences of avoiding speaking opportunities. Remember the times you felt the need to speak to a group but avoided because of fear. Next time focus on how you can help others and yourself by speaking despite this fear.
