How could it be possible that you see something the way another person does? We don’t just see with our eyes. Our brain does the work and out brain is programmed by everything that we have experienced in our past. So it is impossible to see something through another’s eyes.
Given this, it is worth the effort to try to see and hear things the way someone else does. As a child it is likely impossible. As an adult, it is a worthwhile goal. It will take a lot of checking to make sure you are getting the perspective of another. You may not agree with what you hear but you may come close to seeing, hearing and sensing what another senses. You may be able to put yourself in another’s shoes. It is even harder if you see yourself as ‘normal’. You are the norm. They aren’t.
Try it for a day. Imagine you are the person you are speaking to. Make a concerted effort to view the world as they do. The benefits are enormous. Your ability to influence, sell, negotiate and communicate will be more more effective. You will speak to people the way they want to be spoken to.
Try it for a day.
