Happiness is an excited state we are in when we experience pleasure over an extended period. Contentment is a calm state we experience when we do something meaningful over time. Enjoyment is usually a combination of both. Happiness and doing something meaningful. I suspect that most people who work hard on their fitness don’t actually enjoy the hard work but do feel content with the benefits.
Does your happiness come from pleasure or purpose? Think about some activities you engaged in yesterday. Did they bring pleasure or contentment?
Think about the work you do at work. Is the work enjoyable itself or does the enjoyment come from being with your work colleagues? Does it come from the way you are treated by your manager? Do you expect your work colleagues to contribute to your enjoyment or do you expect to contribute to theirs?
So if you find your actual work mundane or repetitive, you can get enjoyment from your work colleagues or a sense of purpose.
Where does most of your happiness come from, pleasure or purpose? Have you thought about shifting the balance? Do you enjoy your job?
