Do you need to speak to individuals or groups as a part of your job? Would you like to improve your ability to captivate your audience and make your message memorable? The ability to speak with confidence and authority is becoming more important every day. It’s getting harder to hide from this responsibility. I recently worked with a person who was given twenty minutes for a second tender presentation for a $10 million contract. A lot riding on the ability of one person to convey a message effectively.
So you have a message. You have an audience. All you need is the skill, confidence and energy to deliver your message.
Public speaking has four aspects.
The first is the challenge. The challenge to speak to an audience of any size and inspire, captivate, convince or inform. The challenge is always there.
The second is goal setting. Setting speaking goals to improve and speak more often. Maybe make public speaking a major part of your job. The only part of your job?
The third is managing fear. Not speaking without fear. Speaking with fear. Using fear. Most people fall at this hurdle. Fear prevents the majority from opening their mouths in front of a group.
The last is feedback. To improve as a public speaker, you will need feedback. You will need coaching and guidance. The feedback must come from someone whose only intent is to help you. This must be someone you trust. Someone who knows what they are doing.
I can assist with the last three. I can show you how to use fear rather than shrink from it. I show how to design and deliver a professional presentation to an audience of any size. I can help you identify your strengths. I can help you identify what needs improving. I can also help you identify the skills, knowledge and attitude that you can bring to the platform. There are many ‘acts’ that you can bring into public speaking that you already possess. Language, humour, calligraphy, movement, passion…
So, if you are looking for a coach, I can assist. I have been working as a professional speaker for over thirty years and have spoken in Europe, North America, China, Singapore, New Zealand, Malaysia and all Australian States. I have been awarded the highest level of accreditation awarded by the National Speakers Association – CSP.
In the meantime, look for opportunities to speak to groups of any size. Tell your personal story for the benefit of others. If you are looking for an inspiring story do some research on Vedran Smailovic.
